Pécs, a city of Europa Cantat (1986, 2015), welcomes choirs and conductors who would like to take part in a cheerful, joyful festival in one of Hungary’s most beautiful cities with a unique historic atmosphere.

The festival’s theme is Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana.

The festival consists of two parts.
Part 1
August 3–5, 2026

MASTERCLASS with Prof. Dr. Tamás Lakner, Liszt Prize–winning conductor
The festival’s Masterclass welcomes choir conductors and students who would like to conduct one of the masterpieces of music history, performed by orchestra + choir + soloists.
Conductors and aspiring conductors can learn the conducting technique and performance practice of individual movements through piano rehearsals.
In the next part of the festival, they will work together with the choirs of Pécs Cantat, an orchestra, and soloists, and at the gala concert—held in the Kodály Centre with its outstanding acoustics—they will have the opportunity to conduct a movement with orchestral accompaniment.
Maximum number of participants: 6–7 people.

Part 2
August 6–9, 2026

INTERNATIONAL CHORAL FESTIVAL
Choirs can take part in independent concerts, in magical community sing-alongs on Cathedral Square that evoke the spirit of Europa Cantat, and in workshops (ateliers) where they rehearse selected movements from Carmina Burana.
Choirs may choose individual movements, or they can take on performing the entire work.
